FINESHUT

Trusted by JAXA, FINESHUT is a precision stray-light absorber made from a revolutionary ultra-low-reflection material, engineered to minimize stray light and unwanted internal reflections in optical instruments and precision machinery.

Unlike conventional flocking materials, FINESHUT achieves minimal particle shedding, a critical requirement in dust-sensitive environments, while combining unrivaled light absorption with exceptional durability under harsh conditions, reconciling two properties long thought incompatible.

From cameras and sensors to advanced scientific measuring instruments, FINESHUT delivers exceptional imaging clarity and maximum measurement accuracy across a wide range of industries.

// COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Stable, ultra-low reflectance from visible light to 1500nm NIR

A standard light-absorbing blackout sheet suffers from a critical vulnerability: the moment it enters the near-infrared (NIR) region beyond 750nm, its reflectance spikes sharply to over 10.0%, creating unwanted infrared reflection.

In stark contrast, the FINESHUT series (SP, KIWAMI, and KIWAMI XX) maintains an exceptionally stable, ultra-low reflectance across a broad spectrum spanning from visible light up to the 1500nm near-infrared range.

// MEASURED DATA, INTERACTIVE

Thanks to these flat, outstanding spectral characteristics, FINESHUT reliably suppresses stray light in cutting-edge optical systems and autonomous-driving technologies that rely on NIR light, such as LiDAR, various infrared sensors, and night-vision cameras. As a broadband NIR-absorbing material, FINESHUT eliminates the performance cliff that limits conventional blackout sheets beyond 750nm.

This lets you select the product grade tailored to your specific optical design and performance requirements. All reflectance values are total hemispherical reflectance measured at 8° angle of incidence (AOI) per JIS Z 8722, using an integrating sphere spectrophotometer across a 250–1500nm wavelength range.

// WHAT IS FINESHUT

Ultra-low reflection, light-absorbing foam sheet

With its exceptional optical properties, FINESHUT serves as a premier anti-reflection material integrated inside a wide range of precision equipment. Engineered from an ultra-fine microcellular polyurethane foam sheet, a next-generation blackout material, it uniquely combines world-class optical performance with an incredibly thin profile.

Unlike traditional stray-light mitigation materials, its standout feature is minimal particle shedding and effortless handling. FINESHUT is fully compliant with strict global environmental regulations, including RoHS 2.0. For advanced applications requiring even higher light-absorption capabilities, we also offer premium high-end models: the KIWAMI grade and our top-tier KIWAMI XX grade.

MICRO-POROUS STRUCTURE

FINESHUT is a breakthrough material that masterfully balances extraordinary light absorption with the minimal particle shedding required in cleanroom environments. The secret lies in our proprietary micro-porous surface structure, formed within the polyurethane foam, it effectively traps incoming light in repeated internal reflections within the micro-porous cavities until it is fully dissipated.

By significantly minimizing both specular and diffuse reflections, flaws inherent in standard anti-reflection paints and sheets, FINESHUT delivers a "True Black" that ensures the stable, peak performance of high-precision optical systems, seamlessly integrating into precision instrument interiors and cleanrooms where conventional flocked materials simply cannot be used.

FAQ

What is the difference between flocking material and polyurethane foam anti-reflection sheets?+

Flocking materials use fiber-based surfaces to scatter light but shed particles continuously, unsuitable for cleanrooms or precision optical assemblies. Polyurethane foam sheets such as FINESHUT achieve ultra-low reflectance through a micro-porous cell structure that traps and absorbs light internally, with minimal particle shedding, making them safe for cameras, microscopes, semiconductor equipment, and other sensitive environments.

How low can total reflectance go for commercially available anti-reflection materials?+

Most commercial black paints and blackout sheets achieve 3–10% total reflectance in the visible range, degrading significantly beyond 750nm NIR. FINESHUT achieves total reflectance as low as 0.5% (KIWAMI XX), maintaining stable ultra-low reflectance across a broad spectrum from visible light up to 1500nm NIR, without the performance cliff seen in conventional materials.

What anti-reflection material is safe for cleanroom and semiconductor manufacturing use?+

FINESHUT is engineered for environments where particle contamination is critical. Unlike flocked sheets, its microcellular polyurethane foam structure generates minimal particle shedding. Adhesive-free versions are also available for applications requiring strict low-outgassing compliance, such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment and space instrument assemblies.

Which black material does JAXA use for space telescope applications?+

FINESHUT KIWAMI is used inside a ground-based telescope at JAXA's Sagamihara Campus, where its stable ultra-low reflectance across near-infrared wavelengths and minimal particle shedding support ongoing development work connected to the JASMINE Project.

What is the operating temperature range for FINESHUT?+

The maximum continuous operating temperature for the FINESHUT series is 80°C (176°F). If your application involves higher-temperature environments, please contact us in advance for technical consultation.

Can you provide custom sizes or complex die-cut geometries beyond the standard formats?+

Yes, absolutely. Through our Precision Cut & Fabrication Service, we offer high-precision laser cutting based on your CAD or design data (DXF, DWG, IGES, etc.), accommodating everything from single-unit prototyping to high-volume mass production.

Are there options available without adhesive backing?+

Yes, FINESHUT SP is available in an adhesive-free specification. For KIWAMI and KIWAMI XX, a high-performance, ultra-thin double-sided tape comes pre-laminated as standard. If your project specifically requires an adhesive-free version of these premium grades, please contact us to discuss custom options.

Is FINESHUT suitable for stray-light mitigation inside microscopes and cameras?+

Yes, it's well suited. FINESHUT was specifically engineered to eliminate stray light and unwanted reflections within optical enclosures and precision machinery. Because it features minimal particle shedding, it can be safely integrated into highly sensitive cleanroom environments.

What materials are used in FINESHUT products?+

The core material of the FINESHUT series is microcellular polyurethane foam. The backing is pre-laminated with a high-performance, ultra-thin adhesive tape.

Can FINESHUT be used in low-outgassing applications?+

Yes, it can. If you require adhesive-free sheets to meet strict low-outgassing or cleanroom standards for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, please contact us directly for customized fulfillment.

Do you provide product samples?+

We apologize, but product samples are not available. To evaluate our product's quality and performance, you can purchase "Standard Cut Sizes" in small quantities from our online store with no minimum order requirement.

What are the pricing and lead times for high-volume bulk orders?+

For high-volume production or large bulk orders, we provide tailored commercial tier pricing and customized production schedules. Please submit your project details via our contact form, and our team will prepare a formal proposal to meet your timeline.
