Our roots go back to the 1950s, when our predecessor, Koyo Kogyo, began supplying materials to Japan's camera makers. KOYO ORIENT JAPAN has carried that business forward since 2002. Building on decades of experience with anti-reflection and light-absorbing materials for camera and optical equipment manufacturers, our experienced and international team aims to be your one-stop shop for some of the blackest materials in the world. Our goal, unlike other manufacturers, is to make ultra-black materials that are not only high-quality but also accessible to everyone. Not just select companies and individuals. We are continually researching and developing new black products to provide our customers with the blackest materials possible and to meet the industry's growing need for high-quality light-absorbing materials.
We develop, process and inspect our products in Japan, with in-house laser cutting and reflectance measurement at our facility in Saitama. Our materials are supplied to leading Japanese camera and lens manufacturers, and we continue to work with them today. We ship to over 60 countries from Japan and have partnered with local distributors around the world to bring our customers the blackest blacks available.

Our history
Our predecessor begins supplying Japan's camera makers
Koyo Kogyo starts making synthetic leather for cameras in Saitama. For decades it supplies camera manufacturers, including flocked anti-reflection fabrics.
KOYO ORIENT JAPAN is founded
The materials business of Koyo Kogyo is carried over to the new company, which keeps supplying camera and optical equipment makers.
Recognized by camera and lens makers
Certified as an Eco Partner by Tamron Co., Ltd. (2007). Received the PARTNER Award from Nikon (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (2008).
Product division launched
We start selling light-shielding and anti-reflection materials such as FINESHUT directly online, in small lots, to engineers and creators.
Musou Black goes global
Musou Black is launched in 2020 and begins shipping from Japan to customers overseas that November.
Exhibiting in the USA
We exhibit at SPIE Photonics West in the USA in 2024 and again in 2026.

How we verify our data
Reflectance data on this site is measured in-house with a UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer (Jasco V-780). Surface structure is inspected under a digital microscope (Keyence VHX-7000) and color is checked with a portable colorimeter (Konica Minolta CM-25d). For key products, results are also verified by external testing laboratories.
Third-party (SGS) RoHS and REACH SVHC test reports are available on request for selected products. Figures shown are representative measured values, not guaranteed values. Please contact us before using them as acceptance criteria.
