Total hemispherical reflectance chart of all Musou Black products in the visible light range (250–750nm), highlighting Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI's ultra-low reflectance below 0.15%

🔍 Click to enlarge (Visible to N-IR)

Total hemispherical reflectance chart comparing all Musou Black products (Fineshut SP/KIWAMI/KIWAMI XX, VL/IR Flock Sheets, Fabric KIWAMI/FR, Paint) across 250–2500nm visible and near-infrared wavelengths at 8° angle of incidence

Technical Note: Total reflectance values of our materials are measured based on the industry-standard AOI 8° index.

By combining both diffuse reflection (scattered light) and specular reflection (mirror-like reflection), we provide a comprehensive evaluation of light absorption—essential for eliminating stray light in high-precision optical systems.

Quick Selection Guide

Visible Light (400-700nm): For absolute blackness, Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI is the premier choice, achieving an industry-leading 99.9% absorption rate.

Ultraviolet (250-400nm): Both Musou Black Fabrics and Fineshut (Foam) series maintain stable, high performance.

Near-Infrared (700-2500nm): IR Flock Sheet is specifically engineered to excel where others drop off, maintaining over 99% absorption even at 1500nm.

Versatility: The Fineshut (Foam) series offers consistent, durable performance across UV to IR ranges, ideal for internal camera/sensor housings.

*Note: For applications requiring fire resistance, Musou Black Fabric FR provides a balanced solution of safety and high optical performance.

Our "Foam" series consistently absorbs light across UV to N-IR ranges due to the uneven structure of the foaming process and carbon atom blending. For standard applications, the VL Flock Sheet offers a cost-effective solution for the visible light spectrum, while the IR Flock Sheet provides superior absorption extending into the infrared range. Musou Black Paint performance varies by application; air-brushing is recommended for optimal results.

💡 Technical Notes for Application

  • Fineshut Lead Time: Standard width is 500mm. For 1000mm (1m) width orders of Fineshut SP, please allow up to 2 months for manufacturing.
  • Handling Foams vs. Paint: Foam and Fabric products are resilient to slight contact. However, Musou Black Paint is very delicate; physical damage will cause particulate generation and performance loss.
  • Painting Coverage: 100mL covers approx. 0.9m² (Brush). For air-brushing to achieve maximum blackness, you will need ~1.4x more paint (~0.64m²/100ml).
  • Lamination Note: Fineshut KIWAMI and Fineshut KIWAMI XX are always pre-laminated with tape because the material is too thin to handle safely otherwise.

Double-Sided Tape

In addition to the tapes listed here, we can also laminate other types of tape upon request.

Name Thickness (mm) Features
3M 93015LE 0.15 PET-based material. Engineered for versatility and long-term reliability, this tape is the industry standard for applications where traditional adhesives struggle to bond.
DIC #8616UJ Black 0.05 PET-based material. Designed for ultra-thin bonding applications where light-shielding and thickness control are critical. *Please note the release film can be somewhat difficult to peel off. The release film contains PFHxA.
