Custom Infrared-Absorbing Parts: Peel-and-Stick Sheets That Cut NIR Stray Light

In short
• Instead of correcting stray infrared light in software or blocking it with baffles, absorb it where it lands.
• Two materials absorb from visible to near-infrared: FINESHUT (thin foam sheet) and IR Flock Sheet (flocked fabric).
• Both come with adhesive backing, and we can laser-cut them to your drawing.
A simple new way to deal with infrared stray light: just stick it on
Are you struggling with unwanted infrared stray light?
Until now, the usual ways to remove unwanted light (visible to infrared) have been image processing in software, or physically blocking it with light shields and baffles.
At ANSOKEN we take a different approach: rather than correcting the data afterwards, we reduce the unwanted light itself. By absorbing the excess light (visible to infrared) and suppressing stray light and reflection noise, you can capture what you are measuring more clearly.
The materials we introduce here are also practical to use on site:
- They can be stuck on
- They can be cut to the shape you need
- They work on three-dimensional parts as well
Two sheet materials for different needs
Our light-absorbing sheets come in two materials: a polyurethane foam sheet and a flocked fabric. Choose according to your application.
Polyurethane foam sheet: FINESHUT
The product name is the FINESHUT series (SP / KIWAMI / KIWAMI XX).

FINESHUT is a high-performance sheet material (polyurethane foam) with a fine porous structure. Here is its surface under magnification:

Features
- Cut to the shape you want, then stick it on with the double-sided tape on the back
- Low particle shedding
- Three infrared-absorbing grades to choose from (standard: SP / higher: KIWAMI / highest: KIWAMI XX)
👉 Best for applications where shape, dimensional accuracy and cleanliness matter.
Representative total hemispherical reflectance (angle of incidence 8°), measured by an external testing laboratory. Not guaranteed values. Measured from 250 to 2500 nm in 5 nm steps; 250 to 1500 nm shown, plotted every 25 nm.
All three FINESHUT grades (SP, KIWAMI and KIWAMI XX) keep a stable low reflectance across a wide range, from visible light to the near-infrared.
Flocked fabric: IR Flock Sheet
The product name is IR Flock Sheet. It is a flocked (raised-pile) fabric sheet that absorbs remarkably well from visible light to the near-infrared.
Features
- The fiber surface takes in light easily
- Flexible, so it conforms well to surfaces
- 950 mm wide and available in long lengths, so it can cover large areas (cut-to-size available)
👉 In other words, it is the material to choose when you need to cover a larger area. It is ideal for infrared-free photo backgrounds and infrared darkrooms.
Representative total hemispherical reflectance (angle of incidence 8°), measured by an external testing laboratory. Not guaranteed values. Measured from 250 to 2500 nm in 5 nm steps; 250 to 1500 nm shown, plotted every 25 nm.
IR Flock Sheet also keeps a stable low reflectance from visible light to the near-infrared.
Adhesive backing: ready to use
Both FINESHUT and IR Flock Sheet are available with adhesive tape on the back, so you can add infrared absorption simply by sticking them onto:
- Metal parts
- Plastic parts
- The inside of cameras, inspection equipment and other housings
That also makes them easy to bring in quickly for prototypes and evaluation.
Precision laser cutting service
We can laser-cut the sheets and fabrics introduced here to your requirements, including:
- Holes
- Complex outlines
👉 This lets you add infrared absorption only where you need it. Send us a drawing and we will cut the material to that shape.
Here is an example of the infrared-absorbing sheet and fabric cut to match an actual part:

Because the parts are laser-cut, there may be some soot on the cut edges.
| Part size (XY) | Laser cutting tolerance |
|---|---|
| Up to 6 mm | ±0.15 mm |
| Up to 50 mm | ±0.2 mm |
| Up to 200 mm | ±0.3 mm |
Flocked fabrics such as IR Flock Sheet: about ±1.0 mm.

With both FINESHUT and IR Flock Sheet, you peel off the backing film or release liner and stick the piece onto your component.
For common shapes such as rectangles, circles and rings, you can order directly from the order form: Laser Cut Service. For other shapes, see Custom Fabrication of Black Materials or send us your drawing.

Where infrared absorption is used
Our materials are used to control stray light in fields such as:
- Preventing false detection by infrared sensors
- Improving camera and sensing accuracy
- Reducing reflection noise
- Robotics and AR
- Research and evaluation
Summary: choosing an infrared stray-light solution
- Machining and accuracy first → FINESHUT (foam sheet)
- Absorption performance first → IR Flock Sheet (fabric)
"Will it work for this application?" "Which one should I choose?" Questions at that stage are welcome. We will suggest the best material and processing method for your application.
