Art
Black that erases light,
made for art.
Paint it, and only that part turns into a shadow.
Stick it on, and the space behind it disappears.
Lay it down, and the floor sinks away.
Four black materials that take the light out of your work.
── One black is not enough.
Make a sculpture recede. Erase a background. Darken an entire floor.

FAQ
Which of the four is the blackest?+
The blackest is Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI, with 99.9% visible-light absorption. The background disappears so completely that objects placed on it seem to float.
But "the blackest" and "the best for your work" are not the same thing.
Curved or uneven 3D objects cannot be covered with fabric, so Musou Black Paint is the only option there.
To make a floor black, choose Musou Black Carpet (coming soon).
First narrow it down by how you will use it (paint, stick or lay), then compare blackness within that group.
My budget is limited. What should I try first?+
Our fabrics are available from A4 size and Musou Black Paint from 100 mL, so please start small.
Photos cannot accurately show how black a material is or how it feels.
We recommend checking it in your own hands first, then ordering the amount you need.
You are also welcome to ask us through the contact form.

When I cover a sphere or 3D object, the outline looks whitish.+
Flock fabrics absorb light best in the direction the pile (fibers) faces, that is, toward the viewer. At the outline, where the surface turns almost parallel to your line of sight, some reflection occurs.
This is a basic property of all flocked fabrics and is hard to avoid on surfaces that curve in many directions, such as a sphere.
The more of the surface that faces the viewer, the better the effect.
How do I mount it on a wall? Can I lay flock fabric on the floor?+
For walls, we recommend strong double-sided tape from a reliable maker such as 3M rather than wallpaper paste.
If you must use fasteners, nails are better than screws, to avoid fraying and pile loss.
We do not recommend laying flock fabric on the floor. Walking on it or placing objects on it flattens the pile permanently and raises reflectance.
For floors, consider Musou Black Carpet (coming soon).
What should I watch out for when joining several pieces into one large surface?+
Carpet and flock fabrics have a uniform pile direction that comes from the manufacturing process, and how they look changes with the angle of the light.
When you cover a large area with several pieces, align the pile direction across all of them. Otherwise you will see uneven reflection (areas that look whitish). If a piece is out of line, rotate it 90 degrees at a time until its pile direction matches the others.
Light from my projector spills onto the walls and ceiling.
Does this work for video installations?+
Yes.
Reflectance is a property of the material itself and does not depend on how even the light is or what pattern is projected. Even with uneven light such as a projector's, reflection is reduced greatly and consistently.
Flock fabrics absorb more light than paint, so use Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI or VL Flock Sheet wherever you can cover a surface.
Use Musou Black Paint where the shape is too complex for fabric.
The venue requires fire-rated materials. Do you have any?+
Musou Black Fabric KIWAMI, VL Flock Sheet and IR Flock Sheet are not fire-rated.
For fire-rated fabric, choose Musou Black Fabric FR, certified to NFPA 701 (US), EN 13773 (EU) and SOR/2016-194 (Canada).
Musou Black Carpet (coming soon) has been tested to EN 13501-1 (class Cfl-s1) and ASTM E648 (Class I).
Requirements differ by country and venue, so please check them with the venue and contact us for the test reports.
I'm worried about dust during the exhibition. How do I clean flock fabric?+
Because of its pile structure, dust tends to show on flock fabric.
A lint roller is the best tool for everyday cleaning.
Water makes the pile lie flat, so do not wash it or wipe it with a wet cloth.
